Topic - Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics – (relevance to Banking & Insurance sector)
School of Commerce - NMIMS, Navi Mumbai campus organized a guest lecture on the topic "RPA, AI and Data Analytics – relevance to Banking & Insurance sector” on August 31, 2019. The lecture was conducted by Mr. Supriyo Dutta who is associated with NSEIT as Delivery Leader and Lead RPA Consultant. Mr. Dutta is an alumnus of Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies. He has close to 20 years’ industry experience in the IT sector in areas of Project/Program Management, Business Analysis, Functional Design and Software Development.

Prof. Suresh Narayan, Faculty, School of Commerce introduced the guest speaker to the students and spoke about the various initiatives taken by the Institute to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
The session began with a video on Big Data Analytics which set the foundation for students to understand various contemporary concepts which are relevant for them in today’s world. This was followed by a brief introduction on the basics of RPA and AI, its working and its real-life application. Mr. Dutta connected the theoretical concepts with practical experiences which provided insights on how AI is being used in the Banking and Insurance industry in various forms viz. Mortgage Processing, Fraud Detection, Credit card processing, etc. He further explained the overall scope of AI and concepts around the integration of AI into various business operations.

During the session, the speaker also explained various other concepts associated with AI, illustrating the differences between Deep learning, Machine learning and AI.
In the concluding part, Mr. Dutta explained about usage of BOTs using RPA and how the BFSI sector and healthcare sector has wholeheartedly embraced the RPA concept and benefited from the same in terms of process efficiencies and cost savings.
Commenting on the future scope of AI he said, "AI has a strong impact on many industries and this impact would grow exponentially over a period of time.”
It was a great learning experience for the students of the Institute. The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed to Mr. Dutta by Prof. Suresh Narayan, Faculty, School of Commerce.
