More powerful than a word processor or desktop publishing system, LaTeX has a host of unique features which can dramatically cut time and cost for any publishing project, especially for long or complex documents such as research publications and PhD theses.
A 2-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on LaTeX was organized by School of Technology Management and Engineering (STME). The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ruchita Verma, Dean, SOHM and Cdr. Arvind Mathur, Associate Dean, STME. The workshop was aimed at faculty and students who are doing research.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Toral Shah, Assistant Professor, STME.Dr. Jyoti Verma and Ms. Variza Negi, Assistant Professors, STME, coordinated the FDP. 30 participants from 10 colleges attended the FDP. The workshop was conducted in NMIMS Navi Mumbai Computer Centre which houses 60 PCs.
There were four sessions in the
workshop:
Session 1 covered Introduction to LaTex: LaTeX tools, Creating basic document, Handling errors, Beamer, etc

Session 2 covered inserting mathematics, tables and figures in documents. Sessions 3 and 4 included paper templates, bibliography, thesis templates, class and style files.

The participants appreciated the
course contents and the manner in which the FDP was conducted overall. Some
participants also showed their interest for an advanced course in LaTeX.
